The dry process. Oil processed in this way is not suitable for human consumption. The dry process produces a product suitable for animals.

The wet process. The wet process may include prolonged boiling, centrifuges, and pretreatments, enzymes, electrolysis, shock waves, or a combination of these. Wet processing may include the use of hexane. Hexane helps extract more oil than rotary mills and ejectors.

Refined, Bleached, Deodorized (also known as RBD). The oil extracted by this process is not suitable for human consumption. RBD uses dry grain with a hydraulic press and heat. This refined oil is tasteless and odorless.

Hydrogenation increases the melting point of oils. In this process, unsaturated fats mix with hydrogen. This mixture increases the saturation of the oil.
