Paint correction refers to the process of removing imperfections in the vehicle coating and restoring the coating better than a new coat. These imperfections include, but are not limited to, swirl marks, auto car washes, fine scratches, watermarks, holograms of engraved bird droppings caused by poor washing techniques.

Several stages of polishing are often required to achieve complete correction. The former is the most abrasive and the latter is a very fine finishing varnish. The deeper scratches are removed at the first stage of polishing, and then the lighter scuffs on the surface caused by coarse paint are removed by the subsequent smooth paint.

Finally, it is important to distinguish between colors that have been corrected and colors that have been treated with products designed to fill in surface imperfections, such as painting in one.

When color is corrected properly, a very fine amount of transparent coating is removed, along with permanent scratches and swirls on the transparent layer. This leaves crystal clarity and a clear reflection.
